Good morning stitching friends!
After owning a quilt shop for over ten years, I have gathered that most people have a "color sense" that they love, and that it can be difficult to see a style without judging it by its color. If you saw my last blog post "Fear not, Primitive is not a color," you will know what I'm talking about! It was always fun to show a customer a quilt in a couple different color ways and see their reaction! So in honor of this idea......I would like to introduce you to my new Martingale/That Patchwork Place author buddy, Tonya Alexander. Her book "Stash Lab" is full of beautiful bright quilts!
I happened to meet Tonya at Quilt Market this past Fall when she came up to me before the School House presentation I was about to make. I was nervous about it, never having presented there before. You would think after many years of teaching classes and presenting to quilt guilds, that I wouldn't have been nervous.....but I was. Tonya said she was nervous too, but encouraged me and stayed to watch. I instantly thought to myself that she was "buddy" material!
A couple of months after Market, I was looking at Tonya's book, and decided to make that last post about style and color, and to play with a couple of Tonyas designs. I contacted Tonya, she played with some of my designs, and together with Martingale, we are launching a Challenge/Contest! Here are the details....
2. Reimagine, redefine, and remake that project in your own style, using your stash, your point of view, and your creativity. Change the colors, change the dimensions—even change the purpose of the project. It’s entirely up to you!
3. Post your finished project to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #mystashmystyle and share how you changed it up. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Complete steps 1-3 and you’ll be officially entered into the MY STASH, MY STYLE contest! So, what prizes are up for grabs?
Prize pack includes:
- A free one-year subscription to Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine, co-owned by Jeni Gaston, author of Primitive Style
- A specially curated bundle of fabrics from Tonya Alexander, author of Stash Lab
- A beautiful bundle of wool from The Woolen Willow
- A $50 gift certificate from publisher Martingale to spend at their website, www.shopmatingale.comhttp://blog.shopmartingale.com/
We hope you will play along with us, as we kick off the contest this week, with a giveaway of Tonya Alexander's e-book, STASH LAB, and of my e-book, PRIMITIVE STYLE. To be entered in the giveaway, leave a comment below about your stash style or a style you would like to try. We'll draw a winner on Wednesday, March 23rd so you can get started on your projects right away! There will be a winner from both Tonya's blog, and from mine, so be sure to go to Tonyas blog for a second chance to win!

Have fun stitching!

This is such a great idea! I lean towards modern designs, using solids and bright colors the most. But I love to try new things! I'd love to win and participate!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea. My stash style is all over the place. I'm relatively new to quilting and try different styles -- except I'm primarily a scrap quilter. I'd love to try primitive -- it's one I haven't tried yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for offering the ebooks.

My stash is a combination of other people's stashes and my own favorites. I have 30's, batiks, novelties, shirts, pj's that don't fit the kids, old jeans. Lots of variety and lots of opportunities to make things work together. Thanks for the challenge. K-
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea for a fun challenge. My stash style consists of mainly primitive and japanese fabrics but lately I have been branching out into moderns. I have a grandaughter who is very happy with the brighter colours and has asked for a new quilt!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this idea. So fun!! Can't wait to see the results.
ReplyDeleteSO fun! I'm loving all the challenges that are going on in the quilty world lately! I would LOVE to win!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy stash style is mostly solids and brights. I love the primitive and civil war type fabrics but they do not fare well with my family and they are the ones who receive the quilts I make
ReplyDeleteMy stash consists of Civil War, Homespuns, Prims, traditional type fabric...that CW dark Dresden nearly stopped my heart! I confess that I do not own a square inch of Batik fabric...:o)) Thanks for the chance to win in your give away!!

Terrific! I love really happy and bright colours. Trying something more traditional would push new boundaries for me.
ReplyDeleteYou are the winner! Send me an email at woolenwillowdesigns@gmail.com
DeleteI tend toward bright colors, so it would be a challenge for me to do something from your book with those colors
ReplyDeleteMy stash is mostly 19th century styles and colors. I have lots of reds and I did not realize it was my favorite color until I Started quilting.

ReplyDeleteMy cupboard is full of reproduction fabric, I don't know if I could ever use the brights but there are wonderful quilts out there.
ReplyDeleteMy stash style is all over the place! I have been quilting for over 25 years. I usually am a traditional quilter. As of late I think I am converting to more modern. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy style..weird..all over the place! Modern traditional fusion with a touch of wild!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!I love trying new quilting styles. Got your book for my bday and love all the projects in it...now to get my hands on Tonya's book. :)

ReplyDeleteMy stash consists mainly of bright jewel tone fabrics, and when I see a pattern that is not in these colors, I really have a hard time even stopping to look at it. But I am slowly learning to slow down and imagine it in 'my' colors, or even doing it as is, for a gift.
ReplyDeletemy stash style is eclectic at best
ReplyDeleteLove your inspiration! My stash is mostly jewel tones plus a Christmas stash! Thanks for sharing!

My style is "Anything Goes." I really enjoy primitive and traditional work. Maybe, just maybe, I might try some brights and more solids, maybe.
ReplyDeleteI like a lot of different styles, but my work usually ends up being very traditional.
ReplyDeleteInteresting giveaway which is enticing me!
ReplyDeleteI have many WIPs going on but also some WHIMMs I'd love to get to, this being one of them.
My stash has a super wide variety and I'm pulled by my spirit whenever it strikes. Which always makes for an interesting finish though I use main stream medium colorways the most. Please only use one of my comment for the giveaway though and thanks!
